Top 13 Things to do at Universal Orlando:
Universal Orlando is a popular destination for many. Below is a list of my top 13 things to do at the Universal Orlando Resort. This includes things from the 3 Universal Parks (Universal Studios, Island of Adventures and Volcano Bay).
1. Universal sign – (Universal Studios):
A classic photo opportunity. It’s a great spot for a family picture – however I’d recommend getting this picture first thing in the morning when you arrive and are still looking fresh!
2. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster – (Universal Studios):
This thrill seeking roller coaster has vertical climbs and loop the loops.
This roller coaster is towards the entrance of Universal Studios. The seats on the coaster itself have speakers near your head so once you’ve sat down you’re actually able to select a genre of music to be played to you whilst on the ride.
3. Jimmy Fallon – (Universal Studios):
Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon. This is a 3D simulator and was honestly a lot better that I was expecting it to be. Presumably the story itself is the same so it may not be enjoyable or as exciting doing it more than once. However if you’ve never visited this ride you definitely should!
4. Revenge of the Mummy – (Universal Studios):
This is a one of a kind thrill ride. Let’s just say there’s fireballs involved!
5. Simpson’s – (Universal Studios):
The Simpson section of Universal Studios is definitely worth a visit.
You can even visit the famous Duff bar.
Moe’s bar / restaurant is also located in Springfield. I’d definitely recommend here as a lunch spot.
When you walk inside there is a bar and seating area but if you walk through to the back you can then order food from multiple different outlets.
One option is to get a classic Krusty Burger that came with curly fries. Honestly this burger did not disappoint!
We also tried a Waffle Burger whilst we were there. This was something a little different and messier but nonetheless very tasty. It had fried chicken covered in a maple syrup mayonnaise!
Now we’re getting onto my favourite part. Lard Lad Donuts. There’s a little stand selling multiple types and sizes of donuts. However they serve one in particular that’s probably the equivalent of 5 regular donuts.
6. Diagon Alley – (Universal Studios):
Any Harry Potter fan will be happy to know there’s a lot of Harry Potter themed features across Universal Orlando.
At Universal Studios you can visit Diagon Alley. Some of the shops in this area sell magic frogs and different sweets that are famous for being offered from the trolley on the train on the way to Hogwarts in the films.
7. Hogwarts Express:
If you have a park-to-park admission ticket then you can travel between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure via the Hogwarts Express. Whilst the train is moving if you look through the window you can see a story being told.
8. Hogsmeade – (Island of Adventure):
In Hogsmeade there are 2 rides that are meant to be very good. Unfortunately due to very long queue times on the 1 day I was there I wasn’t able to try these rides out.
When walking through Hogsmede there are also multiple places you can buy classic butterbeer.
9. The Incredible Hulk coaster – (Island of Adventure):
This is a high speed roller coaster that travels up to 67 mph. This has to be my top roller coaster at Universal Orlando.
10. Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls – (Island of Adventure):
I don’t know if you’ve been to theme parks before and been on a log flume. But this was very different to my other experiences. The ride itself wasn’t too dissimilar, however this did include more drops which made it more exciting than the log flume I’m used to in U.K.
Let’s just say you may as well have jumped in a pool. Honestly you get absolutely drenched! And it’s not one of those rides where the person at the front takes the hit of water and everyone gets off lightly – it’s far from it! Everyone gets soaking! I guess at least it’s fair that way, no one can get the unlucky seat!
Make sure phones are either in waterproof casing or placed right in the center of a bag surrounded by other things to prevent them from becoming damaged.
In all honestly though it was 30+ °C when I was there so the water was very refreshing! I would recommend this but just be warned you won’t have a dry patch left on your clothes!
11. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man – (Island of Adventure):
This is another 3D ride. You get to soar above skyscrapers in order to battle the ‘bad guys’.
12. Cinnabon – (Island of Adventure):
If you live in or have ever visited America you may be well aware of the brand Cinnabon. They sell cinnamon swirls, sticks and ‘sweeties’. The sweeties are basically little dough balls of cinnamon and sugar coated donut. They then provide a vanilla frosting for you to dip them in. Heavenly.
13. Volcano Bay:
This is the 3rd park at Universal Orlando and unfortunately due to time we didn’t get a chance to visit here. Volcano Bay is a water park therefore if the weather is good I’d suggest trying it out.
